#dolls house makeover: miniature felt cloud rug {free pattern}

Everyone needs a cloud rug for their dolls house and this one is adorable and easy to make.

You will need:

Light blue felt (or colour of your choice)
White felt
Black felt
Pink felt
Assorted embroidery floss colours
Scissors + needle
Template which you can DOWNLOAD HERE

Gather all your bits and pieces together and cut out all your felt as per instructions on the TEMPLATE.

ONE:
Position the eyes and cheeks on the biggest cloud to get an idea of where they sit. Refer the template for layout.

TWO:
Using 1 strand of black embroidery floss whip stitch the eyes on. With the same thread add the eyelashes, eyebrows and mouth using back stitch.

THREE:
Using 2 strands of pink embroidery floss secure the cheeks on with 1 cross stitch in each.
Using 2 strands of white embroidery floss add the flecks in the eyes.

FOUR:
Pin the cloud onto one of the blue pieces, refer to template for positioning,
Five:
Using 1 strand of white embroidery floss whip stitch the clouds on.

NB: At this point I decided to give my rug rounded corners.

FINALLY:
Using 2 strands of blue embroidery thread place the two blue pieces together and blanket (or whip) stitch around the whole rug.

MINI CLOUD CUSHION
You can also make the cloud into a mini cushion for your dolls house. Just cut out two of the larger cloud pieces, sew on the face details as above then blanket (or whip) stitch the two pieces together. Remember to leave a gap to for stuffing and then sew closed.

CLOUD BROOCH
Repeat as per the cushion and sew a brooch back on the back.

I would love to see photos of your felt cloud creations using my pattern.
Please feel free to upload them to my facebook page....https://www.facebook.com/CupcakeCutieNZ

Happy Sewing!

Christmas in May anyone?

I know you probably think I have gone a bit mad but I am seriously starting all my Xmas craft now!
Last year I was so inundated with orders for my felt ornaments that I just couldn't keep up with so this year I thought I would start early...really early!

I am working on some cute felt gingerbread garlands - adorable if I do say so myself! They are an extension of the single gingerbread man ornaments I make. If you are feeling creative (and festive) the free tutorial for the single ornament is here.

I will also be making more of the 'Cutest Gingerbread House in the World'...

Many hours of teeny tiny stitches in this one!
There will be more Babushka Dolls and Angels....

And Christmas puds!

If anyone wishes to place an early order please feel free. I hope to get a blog page up soon showing all the designs available and prices. In the meantime feel free to email me with questions and orders!

My Felt Store

I have finally had a revamp of my felt store. It has been very neglected while I have been in a Craft 2.0 frenzy for the last couple of months.

I have added a few more patterns including my new Softie Doll 'Miss Riding Hood'

You can get your pattern here. I have also added a couple of pattern deals, choose any 2 or choose any 3 patterns and save!

For all those stitchers looking for retro patterns I have added.....
Retro Martini

Retro Lava Lamp
I have many more patterns that I am transferring from paper to software so I will be slowly (!) adding new patterns, hopefully every week.

I will also be adding more felt needlebooks, pincushions and brooches which were the biggest sellers at Craft 2.0.

New stuff - Felt Needlebooks

Little Red Riding Hood - keeper of the needles!
Born out of necessity after losing too many neeedles down the side of the couch
I decided a needlebook (is it one word or two?) was in order and as my obsession with felt continues I got a bit excited and had to make hedgehog and toadstool designs as well.

Cute!

I have just listed them in my felt store  - how appropriate!

Free Christmas felt ornament pattern - Gingerbread man

Make your own cute Gingerbread Christmas decorations.....

You will need......
  • Brown & Red felt
  • White ric rac
  • ribbon for hanging tag
  • dark brown, light brown and white embroidery floss
  • pins, embroidery needle
  • nice sharp scissors

Double click on the above template to open it in a new window.
Right click and select print picture and print onto A4 paper
- it will print at the correct size of 5" (13cm high)

Glue or trace onto cardboard to make it easier to use.

Cut two of the body out of brown felt and one heart out of the red felt
-N.B I have actually used a puffy heart I had in my stash, a button would work well too.

Use 6 strands of the dark brown floss and use French knots to create his eyes and
back stitch to make his mouth (visit DMC stitch guide for help with different stitches!)

Use 2 strands of white floss and use a runnibg stitch to attach the heart.
Use 2 strands of dark brown floss and do 3 cross stitches to make his buttons.

Using 2 strands of white floss add strips of ric rac onto legs and arms with a running stitch.

Using 3 strands of light brown floss start blanket stitching the front and back bodies together.

Using 2 strands of white floss stitch the hanging tag to the back of the top body -
making sure the stitching does not show through to the face.

Finish blanket stitching around and you are done!!

For something different add a bit of polyfill stuffing to make a chubby gingerbread man.
